Charting is staring, and what you stare at is color. The right setup keeps long sessions easy on the eyes, makes buying and selling readable at a glance, and puts the chart in your colors instead of somebody else's defaults. OpenMarket splits appearance into three layers that stack: a dark or light mode, a color theme that repaints the whole platform, and per-chart color overrides for when one chart should break the rules. Every change applies instantly and saves itself.

## Switch between dark and light

The fastest route is the sun/moon button in the top bar, right next to your profile picture. One click flips the entire interface, and every chart repaints with your theme's light or dark palette (every color theme ships both variants).

The same switch lives in a few other places:

- **Profile menu**: open your profile (top right) and flip the **Dark Theme** toggle.
- **On mobile**: open the profile menu, then **Appearance** under Preferences, and pick the **Dark** or **Light** card.
- **Super search**: press `Ctrl/Cmd+J`, type "dark", and flip the **Dark Mode** toggle without leaving the palette.

Light mode is a member feature: if you are browsing as a guest, the switch opens the sign-in prompt instead. A free account unlocks it.

## Pick a color theme

Six themes are on the menu: **Kiyotaka**, **Percept** (the default for new accounts), **Classic**, **Sourgum**, **Carbon**, and **Quartz**. A theme is more than two candle colors: it sets the chart background, bullish and bearish candles (up and down), volume colors, the line palette your indicators draw from, and the bid/ask tints in the orderbook, with a matching version for dark and light mode.

Change it from any of these:

- **Top bar**: the two-dot button next to the sun/moon toggle opens the theme list. The dots preview each theme's bullish and bearish pair.
- **Profile menu** (desktop): the **Color Theme** row of swatches.
- **On mobile**: profile menu, **Appearance**, then the Color Theme list.
- **Super search**: type any theme's name and select it.

Switching recolors every open chart live (candles, volume, indicator lines, profiles) along with the interface around them, then saves the result into your workspace. Colors you picked by hand stay exactly as you set them: a theme switch never overwrites a custom color.

## Fine-tune chart colors

When a theme is close but not quite, override it per chart. Right-click the chart and choose **Settings…**, or click the gear on the symbol legend, to open **Advanced Settings**, then select **Main** at the top of the left sidebar. On mobile, the legend gear opens the chart settings drawer with the same controls.

The **Style** section holds the pickers: **Background**, **Bullish Candle/Spline**, **Bearish Candle/Spline**, **Bullish Volume**, and **Bearish Volume**, plus the **Grid** mode (full grid, horizontal only, vertical only, or none). The reset arrow beside the section title puts everything back on the theme's defaults.

Two behaviors worth knowing:

- **Backgrounds are per mode.** A custom background applies only to the mode you set it in, dark or light; the other mode keeps its theme default. Candle and volume overrides apply in both.
- **Overrides are per chart.** In a multi-chart layout each chart can run its own colors, and they are stored in the workspace, so they show up wherever that workspace is opened.

Indicators work the same way from their own settings dialog (the gear on the indicator's legend row): once you customize an indicator's colors, theme switches leave that indicator alone.

## What saves where

- **Mode and color theme** are account settings. They save automatically the moment you click and follow you to every device and browser you sign into. As a guest they stick to the current browser only.
- **Chart color overrides** save into the workspace itself and travel with it.
- Nothing on these pages has a save button; every change persists on its own.

One quirk to expect: a fresh page load always paints dark for the first instant, then applies your saved mode and theme as soon as your settings arrive. On a light-mode account that brief dark flash is normal.
