Session Volume Profile (SVP) draws a sideways histogram for every session on the chart: one row per price, as long as the volume that traded there. Long rows mark prices where a lot changed hands, and short rows mark prices the market passed through quickly.
Add it to your chart
- Open Indicators in the top bar, or press
/. - Search for Session Volume Profile (or "svp") and click it once. The profiles draw on the price chart, one per session.
A chart holds up to three session volume profiles, so you can stack a daily and a weekly one. Agg. Session Volume Profile adds several exchanges into one profile and counts toward the same three.
How to read it
- POC, the point of control: the price with the most volume in the session.
- Value area: the band of prices around the POC that holds 70% of the session's volume by default. VAH and VAL are its top and bottom edges. Rows outside the value area draw muted.
The POC, VAH and VAL lines are on by default. Their switches are on the Style page of the settings, which open from the gear on the indicator's legend row.
Settings
- Session: how much time each profile covers. Targeted, the default, picks a length that suits the chart interval, and Wide a longer one. Daily and Weekly draw one profile per day or week. US, EU and Asia follow those markets' trading hours, on intraday charts. Custom uses the Length you set.
- Daily session start: Chart timezone or UTC.
- Custom hours: builds each daily profile from only the hours you set, such as one market's opening hours. Off by default.
- Unit: the asset's own unit by default, coins or contracts, or US dollars.
- Value Area: how much of the volume the value area holds, 70% by default.
- Rows layout: Ticks per row keeps a fixed price height for each row. Number of rows cuts the profile's price range into a set count, so rows resize as the range changes.
- Display mode: Total, the default, shows all the volume in one bar, colored by buying and selling. Split draws the two sides as halves from a center line. Delta shows only buying minus selling. Outline traces only the profile's shape.
- Threshold: rows with less volume than this number draw in grey, so the busier prices stand out. 0, the default, greys nothing.
The settings also hold Imbalance, Orientation, Background, Bar width, Show total profile and Show Value.
Which markets it covers
SVP works on crypto and on CME futures, where Session hours picks the regular or the full session. It does not run at one-second intervals on CME futures. For a profile of the prices on screen instead of each session, add VRVP (Visible Range Volume Profile) from the same library.
