How do I replay past candles (bar replay)?

Open the Panels menu, pick Replay under Tools, then click the bar to start from and press Play. Replay is free for every signed-in account. Tick replay covers the last 48 hours and needs Plus on CME futures.

Open the Panels menu, pick Replay, then click the bar you want to start from. The chart hides everything after that bar and plays the candles forward from there. Replay is free for every signed-in account.

Start a replay

  1. On the chart toolbar, open the Panels menu and pick Replay under Tools. You can also open super search with Ctrl/Cmd+J, type "replay" and pick Start Bar Replay.
  2. If your layout has other charts, choose This chart or All charts. With All charts, the other charts switch to this chart's interval and replay with it, then switch back when the replay ends.
  3. When the replay bar says Click the chart, click the bar to start from. Jump picks a date and time instead (in UTC), and First available starts at the oldest bar replay can reach.

Replay is not on the toolbar by default. To keep a button for it, press the pin beside Replay in the Panels menu (Pin to toolbar).

Play, step and exit

Hover a button on the replay bar to see its name.

  • Play and Pause, or press Shift+Down.
  • Step forward one bar, or press Shift+Right. Step back one bar goes the other way.
  • Playback speed sets how fast the bars play.
  • Replay data resolution sets the data the replay steps through: Auto, a finer interval, or tick.
  • Jump to a date & time moves the replay to another date. Pick a new bar to restart the replay lets you click a new start bar.
  • Follow the playhead keeps the running candle in view.
  • Exit, or Escape, takes you back to the live chart.

Plans and limits

  • Replay is free on every plan: you only need to sign in.
  • Tick replay covers the last 48 hours. On CME futures it needs Plus; on crypto it is free.
  • How far back replay reaches depends on the interval: coarser intervals reach further. A date out of reach is locked, and the date picker says why.
  • Replay is off on month intervals (1M and longer), prediction markets, on-chain tokens, grids larger than the standard layouts and presets (the row reads Off in Monitor), and during a live stream. The Replay row stays in the menu and says why.

Drawing and trading during replay

  • You can draw while a replay runs, as on the live chart, and your drawings are saved. Drawing tools wait only while you pick the start bar.
  • Replay has no practice trading of its own. The paper account always trades at live prices, so an order sent during a replay fills at the live price, not at the replayed candle. A replaying chart hides your order and position lines until you exit.
